THE CULTURE IS NOT THE CULTURE,
WITHOUT THE PEOPLE.
And by the people, we mean Black Folx — those from the African Diaspora, those with additional ethnic backgrounds that are not African, those who are native to countries other than America, those who are LGBTQIAP2S+, those that are expressing themselves through radical resistance in order to reclaim their bodies from abuse, those who practise traditional African spirituality, those who know that GOD is good (all the time), those socially awkward-geeky-artsy-alternative-type ones, those street smart-gangsta-hood-ratchet-type ones, those that see both a psychologist and a psychiatrist, and all of those who feel alienated from the cultural belonging of being Black.
We see you. We hear you. You are the culture.
All Black Lives Matter.
The Representation Is Real.
This is a conceptual project that I created in April of 2021 for Spotify’s consideration of me as their Black Culture Podcast Editor. This body of work — the website design, content, and copy — is a glimpse of what I had planned to communicate as Editor. The experiences that I sought to lead development and organisation of would have been rooted in virtuously illustrating the message that you are about to engage with here. It was my intention for a harm-free zone to have been created and secured through my work with the Editorial crew, which would have in turn developed a progressive communal space for Black folx to express their truths through podcasting. My mission was, and still is, to lift every Black voice (as well as ally voices) to sing harmoniously in representation of our humanity and divinity. Let’s continue to press forward with more inclusion of Black folx within society-at-large, and while we’re at it, let’s nurture that same inclusivity within the Black community itself.
We’re one with the world.
Without further adieu, the pitch that I designed and wrote in order to communicate my vision of Black Spotify® For The Culture…
a conceptual partnership
